Using Email Magic Edit to refine a draft

Magic Edit is an AI-powered inline editing tool built into the email composer. Highlight any text in your draft, type an instruction, and Magic Edit rewrites just that selection - the rest of your email stays exactly as it was.

How to use Magic Edit

1. Open the email composer (compose, reply, or forward)
2. Write your draft - or use Generate with AI to create a starting point
3. Select the text you want to change by clicking and dragging
4. A floating toolbar appears above your selection with a "How should I edit this?" field
5. Type your instruction and press Enter or click Update
6. The selected text is replaced with the edited version

Example instructions

• "Make this more formal"
• "Shorten this paragraph"
• "Make it friendlier"
• "Fix the grammar"
• "Expand on this point"

Tips

• Magic Edit only changes the text you've highlighted - the rest of your email is untouched
• You can use it as many times as needed on different parts of the same email
• Press Escape to dismiss the toolbar without making changes
• Magic Edit cannot be applied to your email signature
